got the car fixed. it turned out to just be a water pump, which is better than what i thought. for those of you who know me and are wondering how i could have run down a perfectly new car you can stop wondering now. i was driving joshua's old car so that he could have the air conditioning. his broke and in the kansas heat he was arriving for meetings soaked through his suit. i do not mind the heat, until i got stuck on the freeway.

How exactly did the car break down? Because it may not have been the water pump. A lot of garages are a little on the lazy side and they don't fully check things out before they start replacing parts, especially with overheating cars.
If the impeller of the water pump went bad, the engine temp would be fine at highway speeds but would heat up rapidly when you were just idling. If the pump itself seized, you'd hear a high pitched squealing as the belt tried to turn the pump.
